Important topics and expert tips for Maths exam

In view of board exams coming near, we have penned down very important tips and tricks for class 10 students to prepare better for your exams.

 

In total, there are 34 questions along with marks distribution for each section as mentioned below. This was the pattern that was followed in CBSE Class 10 Mathematics 2014 paper
Section A – (8 marks): It consists of 8 questions each of 1 mark.
Section B – (12 marks): It consists of 6 questions of 2 marks each.
Section C – (30 marks): It consists of 10 questions of 3 marks each.
Section D – (40 marks): It consists of 10 questions of 4 marks each.

 

Important Topics:

The below mentioned topics are very important from exam point of view. We have also tried to pen down expected marks from these most important topics.

ALGEBRA – Marks Important (23 marks)

Most important is quadratic equations, check whether an equation is quadratic/not quadratic equation, finding roots of quadratic equations, finding the discriminant of an equation, check the nature of roots Arithmetic progressions- Problems related to nth term, sum of first n terms of an A.P.

MENSURATION– Marks Important (23 marks)

Areas related to circles-Application problems of area of circle, area of sectors and segments of circle Surface areas , volumes, Surface area of solids (cylinder, cone, hemisphere),problems on frustum of a cone

GEOMETRY – Marks Important (17 marks)

Circles-applications of theorem 10.1, 10.2, construction of tangent to a circle, dividing a line segment, constructing a triangle similar triangle as per given scale factor

COORDINATE GEOMETRY– Marks Important (11 marks)

Coordinate geometry- Problems formula, areas of triangles

TRIGNOMETRY– Marks Important (8 marks)

Heights and Distances -problems on line of sight, angle of elevation, angle of depression

PROBABILITY– Marks Important (8 marks)

Problems on selection of days, numbers, balls, cards, dice

 

Expert tips:

  • Prepare a time table
  • Clear your concepts
  • Revise the concepts
  • Practice as much as you can
  • Finish chapters that you find easy so that your confidence is boosted.
  • Practice the numerical questions especially ncert solutions and revise concepts and fundamentals. This will also give you an idea on what areas you need to improve.
  • Practice new questions on MCQ’s and SAQ’s. Some compendium can be through ncert solutions, previous year board papers, sample papers and cbse study material available for free.
  • Practice NCERT books and its solutions thoroughly. CBSE board exam question papers are entirely based on this book
  • Timing is very crucial. Ensure that you keep atleast 10-15 mins for last minute hitches and revision.
